Bird and wildlife watching holidays in the Derbyshire Peak District and South Yorkshire

Self Guided Peak District Bird Watching Holidays

What is a Self Guided Bird Watching Holiday in the Peak District?

Self guided holidays are the norm for walking and hiking holidays in the UK and for a number of Bird Watching companies that operate overseas but not many UK companies offer self guided Bird Watching holidays. I think that may change in the future when people realise the benefits this type of holiday has to offer.

Self guided birding holidays are ideal for individuals or couples who love the idea of a Bird Watching break but for whatever reason don't want to be part of an organised group and want a bit more freedom to do their own thing, whilst having all the hassle taken out of organising the holiday.

Self Guided Birding Holidays are suitable for all levels of birders,

  • People who are new to Bird Watching but like the idea of going to great places to watch birds but just need a bit of guidance as to where to go and how to maximise what they see (we can also arrange optional extras such as a guide for a few hours or a full day to give you help and advice to kick-start your birding holiday)
  • People with a good knowledge of Birds and Bird identification who feel they don't need a guide but want the convenience of a ready made, hassle free holiday at great locations with assistance on finding the best birding sites
  • The more experienced birders looking for that hassle free holiday in a stunning area with great accommodation and detailed information drawn from experienced birders, helping them to maximise their time spent looking for target species

What's included in a Self Guided Bird Watching Holiday with Peak District Birding Holidays?

We take the hassle out of arranging a Bird Watching break for you, you tell us when you want to come, how long you want to stay and an idea of what you want to do and see (give us as much or as little information as you want, you can leave that part of the holiday up to us, we have several years experience of watching Birds in the area) and we will take care of everything for you. Included in your holiday is:

  • An information pack containing A fully detailed (but flexible) personal itinerary showing your day to day arrangements including Bird Watching Venues, places to go, full directions by car, maps, where to park, details of birds that can be seen and hints and tips on the best way and times to see each species
  • Alternative venues to offer a wide range of choices depending on weather conditions, how far you want to walk/travel or just how you feel!
  • A check-list to record birds seen that builds into a full record for your holiday
  • En suite accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis at one of our hand picked Traditional Country Inns or Hotels, all set in idyllic locations in the heart of the Peak District where you will be assured of a warm Derbyshire welcome.
  • Everything you need to know for a hassle free holiday, free from problems.
  • Information on things such as places to eat, cafes, pubs, the local area, Equipment supplies, Banks and public services
  • Support should there be any problems on your holiday

Optional Extras we can arrange (not included in the Holiday price) are:

  • An experienced Tour guide to give you a bit of extra help, payable by the half or full day
  • Hire of binoculars
  • Accommodation on a full board basis
  • Additional nights accommodation to enjoy the many other delights the Peak District has to offer

The Self guided Holidays are based on you using your own car throughout the holiday. The Peak District is a rural location but does have an adequate Public transport network, we can arrange your holiday using public transport if required but please contact us to discuss.

How much does it cost?

Because we arrange a number of holidays in the area, we are able to negotiate a discount on accommodation which means the total price for the Self Guided holiday is often only a little more than you would expect to pay for the accommodation alone.

The costs of the basic Self Guided holiday, tailored to your own requirements are:

  • A Three Night Bed and Breakfast Holiday with a Personal Holiday pack containing four days Bird Watching Itinerary - Costs £170 per person, based on two people sharing a twin room
  • A Four Night Bed and Breakfast Holiday with a Personal Holiday pack containing five days Bird Watching itinerary costs £190 per person, based on two people sharing a twin room

A single room supplement of £10 per night is payable on the above holidays

To book a Self Guided holiday, please complete the booking form on the “How to Book” page using the drop down box for Self Guided Holidays (Self Guided Booking form). If you require any of the optional extras, please detail these in the "any other additional information" box before submitting the form to us.

We will contact you by e mail within 7 days to confirm provisional booking of your holiday. A deposit of £50 per person is required at the time of booking and can be paid on line, or if booking off line, paid by cheque together with your booking form.

Full payment is due 6 weeks before your holiday start date, with the Personal Holiday pack being sent to you at least 2 weeks in advance of your holiday.
